Teens

If you’re a teen, chances are you’re dealing with anxiety and stress. Right now, you're juggling so many things - keeping up with school, maintaining a social life, planning your future, and staying on top of the never-ending assignments, activities, and notifications. Add in the seemingly-constant pressure from parents, friends, and society, it's no wonder you might feel overwhelmed.

The teenage years are full of new experiences, responsibilities, and challenges. They also offer a chance to define your personal values, develop an authentic relationship with yourself, and discover the life you want to live. It can feel exhilarating, crushing, and confusing all at the same time.

Here's the good news: You don't have to navigate all of this alone. We can work together to understand your emotions, find balance, and manage the ups and downs of life.

Therapy is a place for you to feel your deepest feelings, share your innermost thoughts, and explore your hopes and dreams. It’s a space to experiment with different ideas, explore new ways of being, and encounter hidden parts of yourself. You can vent about frustrations, practice asking for what you need, or plan how to reach your goals. My aim is to meet you where you are while providing a safe and non-judgmental space for you to be you.

Our time together can look a lot of different ways, depending on your preferences, needs, and goals. My office is full of art supplies, games, and sensory tools, and you’re welcome to color, sketch, craft, build, fidget, move, and play! If you just want to sit and talk, then that’s what we’ll do. If you want to switch it up, we can also color, create a nature mandala, explore sensory bins, or play Uno while we’re talking.

You choose what you want to get out of the experience. Counseling can help you:

  • Manage depression, anxiety, panic attacks, ADHD, trauma, and other mental health issues
  • Handle stress, overwhelm, overstimulation, and challenges
  • Understand and express your feelings, thoughts, and needs
  • Figure out who you are, what’s important, and how you want to live your life
  • Improve communication and build stronger relationships
  • Assertively set boundaries that allow you to stay true to yourself
  • Set personal goals and make a plan to achieve them

Building a trusting relationship and creating a safe environment is an important part of therapy. I take your privacy seriously, so what we talk about will stay between us, unless there’s a safety concern. When we meet, I’ll explain exactly what I will and won’t share with parents, and answer any questions you have about confidentiality.

A word to parents: When your teen starts therapy, I know it’s tough to not know every detail of what is going on - but rest assured you will know the important things! Because trust is so important, I do not give regular parent updates or share what teens choose to talk about or work on in therapy. Of course, I will let you know if there are major safety concerns. When appropriate, we may have parent sessions to discuss relevant topics such as improving the parent-teen relationship, enhancing communication skills, or supporting your teen’s unique needs.
