Groups

Bright Path Coaching Groups combine learning, practice, and connection in a supportive, small-group environment.

Groups teach valuable social-emotional skills, as well as offer unique opportunities to build confidence, develop empathy, and increase self-awareness. Group members cultivate meaningful connections with each other through collaborative interactions, shared understanding, and a sense of belonging.

Our group curricula include thoughtfully designed lessons and engaging activities to help participants master new skills and connect with one another. Each session is targeted to meet group members’ unique needs, learning profiles, and interests. Members will encounter new skills directly, as well as through the natural course of interacting and cooperating with one another.

Social
Emotional Learning
Group

Our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Group is designed to teach social-emotional skills while maximizing social interaction opportunities. It strikes a balance, with half of the time devoted to structured learning activities and the other half reserved for social time.

We’ll cover SEL topics and skills including emotional awareness and expression, managing big feelings, understanding the brain, healthy communication, self-talk, self-regulation, empathy, resilience, self-esteem, growth mindset, self-care, and more.

SEL Group might be a good fit for kids and teens who want to learn more about mental health and social-emotional topics, enhance their emotional awareness and social skills, and connect with peers in a fun, supportive atmosphere.

Social Skills
Group

Our Social Skills Group is designed to teach social, communication, and friendship skills while providing opportunities to practice newly-learned skills and engage with peers.

Through guided instruction, hands-on activities, and play, participants will learn and practice important social skills such as finding common interests, joining conversations, keeping conversations balanced, building and maintaining friendships, using humor appropriately, resolving conflict, and handling teasing. In addition to my own curriculum, I utilize resources from Social Thinking, PEERS, and other evidence-based approaches.

Social Skills Group might be a good fit for kids and teens who struggle with friendships, require more structure, and benefit from explicit instruction.

Study Skills
Group

Our Study Skills Group is designed to teach study skills while providing opportunities to socialize and connect with others. Each session begins with a group mini-lesson or skill-building activity, then members take turns meeting individually with an executive function coach for support and guidance. While the coach is meeting with individuals, the remaining members are encouraged to socialize, play games, and work on creative projects together.

Group members will learn and practice strategies for staying organized, using a planner, taking notes, studying, managing time, tackling big projects, maintaining motivation, and more.

Study Skills Group might be a good fit for middle and high school students who are interested in targeted study skills support in a fun, collaborative environment.

Intake

Once you’re matched with a group, we’ll ask you to sign our consent forms and provide more detailed information about your child’s history, needs, and goals.

Introduction

After returning the forms, we’ll schedule two 30-minute introduction sessions - one for the parent(s) and one for the child. During the parent intake session, we’ll talk about what to expect and answer any questions you may have. During the child’s intake session, we’ll start building rapport while assessing their developmental readiness for the group.

Group Information

Group Schedule:
Each group session lasts 75 minutes and meets at the same day and time each week.

Group Formation:
We group members who are developmentally appropriate for each other based on age, strengths, interests, and scheduling factors.

Groups are offered based on current client needs. New groups form when at least four members commit to a meeting time. Groups require a minimum of four members and are capped at six.

Who can join a group?
Members do not need to have any specific diagnosis nor do they need to have previously participated in counseling to join a group. All are welcome. At the same time, many aspects of the curriculum have been designed to support the needs of individuals with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, social anxiety, learning differences, and other social, emotional, and academic challenges.

Additionally, the pandemic was tough and isolating for most children and teens, and many are having difficulty re-entering social spaces. Many adolescents missed important developmental opportunities, lost their social confidence, and defaulted to withdrawing over connecting. Small groups are an ideal setting for getting back out there and expanding their social comfort zone.

What if I’m already in counseling?
Bright Path Groups are not therapeutic or intended to take the place of counseling, so members are welcome to attend whether or not they are in individual counseling or any other type or treatment.

Group Session Rates
Group session (75 minutes): $75
Intake or Check-In session (30 minutes): $75

Group Attendance
Building a safe and supportive group requires consistency. It’s important for group members to trust that the same people will be there every week. Additionally, some lessons and activities work best with a specific number of participants. In joining the group you are making a commitment to attend most, ideally all, of the scheduled weekly sessions.

Cancelation Policy
Groups have a 24-hour cancelation policy. If you miss a group without notice or cancel less than 24 hours ahead of time, you will be charged the full group session fee.
